Welcome

Welcome

It is a joy to welcome you to First Church of the Nazarene of Great Bend, Kansas.  Feel free to come and check us out at 4811 Broadway. You will find that this is a safe place to come and seek God and discover His grace. Your life doesn’t have to be in perfect order. None of us do! But we can travel together on a journey of discovery and spiritual growth as we seek God and allow Him to do the deep work of healing that our hearts so desperately need.

In our worship services and discovery groups, you will find the love of Jesus, music that touches the heart, biblically based messages, and ministries designed to meet the needs of all age groups. Please give us the privilege of greeting you personally when you come to worship with us.

There will be no pressure for you to join our church.  Just come and see… God’s love is alive and making a difference in our lives, and He will do the same in yours! Please know that we are here to serve you and those you love.  You matter to God and to us!

For Families

Christian families are to be different.  Even when the family as a whole is not ‘Christian’, those who are, must relate to the rest of the family differently.  Followers of Jesus are members of the kingdom of God;  and because of this, we are to relate to our spouses, parents, and children in a different manner than those who are members of the world.  In other words, the kingdom of God operates differently from the kingdom of this world.  God has called us out and set us apart so that we would be witnesses to His unsurpassed glory.  We live differently as a result of who we are and as a result of Who we belong to.

O.K., so we know this is supposed to be true…  But in reality, many Christian families struggle ~ marriages and parent-child relationships are stressed and strained;  and we wonder why things are so hard for us!  After all, following Christ is supposed to make our life good and right and fulfilling, right?  Well, when things between us and God are made right through salvation, then the journey of transformation begins!

Romans 12.1-2 talks about the “renewing of your mind”.  Salvation (forgiveness, redemption) is the beginning point of what God wants to do in our hearts and lives.  Once our sins are forgiven and our relationship with God restored, then God wants to re-vamp the carry-over:  old ideas, old loyalties, old habits, old ways.  What this means is:  God continues to work in the hearts and lives of Christians, changing every aspect of our lives so that we reflect Him and His glory.

What’s this mean for our relationships?  It means that there may be old junk still littering the “living-room” ~ old stuff that God wants to clear out of our family relationships.

Here, on the web-site, under the side-bar heading called “What’s New”, you will find a button called “Family Confession”.  You and your family might want to check that out and use this as a way to begin to make modifications in the relationships in your home.  There’s nothing wrong with confessing our faults and short-comings.  As a matter of fact, confession is the first step toward turning them around!

Also, there’s two new links under the side-bar heading, “What’s New”.  The first is called “Love Language Profile”.  Clicking on it will take you to Dr. Gary Chapman’s 5 Love Languages Profile tool.  It will take you less than 10 minutes to complete;  but it will give you an insight into the way you’re wired.  Knowing your love language can help you identify the way(s) you are naturally inclined to show (and receive) love.  How helpful could this knowledge be, to transforming your marriage!?!

The second new link under “What’s New”, called “Relationship Helps”, will take you to Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott’s web-site.  You will find a library of valuable resources.  Common questions are posed to Les and Leslie and they have video-taped their responses.  Chances are, some of the questions that you have are already answered about communication, children, or in-laws.  In these 2-5 minute video responses to specific questions, Drs. Les and Leslie give you solid, biblical counsel. How fantastic is that!?!

May the Lord bless you and your family with an abundance of grace and patience.  May He redeem and transform your family relationships so that people sit up and take notice that something’s different about you.  May Christ-like love be seen in you, to the glory of God!
